A THEOLOGY OF WORD & SPIRIT

Can I be so bold as to say that this is the book on theological method and theological authority? And now that I’ve got your attention, let me explain why….
This book was set as the textbook for my Intro to Theology course. Yet, to my shame, I never read it at the time. To my total shame, I didn’t even buy it at the time! It was my first semester at College, and I was drowning just trying to get the assignments done. I’m glad that this story is one of redemption. This would be one of the best books I have ever read. Yup, it’s that good.
Bloesch advocates fidesitic revelationalism as the theological method of choice. Bloesch defines this as follows:

Theology is the systematic reflection within a specific culture on the self-revelation of God in Jesus Christ as attested in Holy Scripture and witnessed to in the tradition of the catholic Church…It’s norm is Scripture, but its field or arena is the cultural context in which we find ourselves. It is engaged in reflection not on abstract divinity or on concrete humanity but on the Word made flesh, the divine in the human.” 114
